When "Video Village" premiered in 1960, the show was broadcast from New York City, and Jack Narz was the host. Narz (who was the brother of game-show legend Tom Kennedy) had to drop out of the series in an attempt to save his marriage, since his wife at the time was living in California. Monty Hall took over as emcee, and ironically, production of the show soon shifted from New York to the CBS Television City complex in Hollywood. Although "Video Village" left the air in 1962, it is fondly remembered, especially by those viewers of the show who were children then. A board game version, manufactured by Milton Bradley, is a collector's item and copies surface on E-Bay from time-to-time.

Video Village was a popular afternoon game show played on a set that was a replica of a town, complete with shops, a bridge, a jail and three streets made up of squares bearing instructions such as 'Lose a turn'. The two contestants took turns to move around the board. The Town Crier operated an electronic console which acted as a die, selecting a number between one and six. Prizes were collected along the way. The first to reach the Village Bus was the winner. The show was made in Melbourne by Crawford Productions and HSV-7, and ran from 1962 to 1966.
